Corpus clock costing $1.8 million outside Cambridge campus!

clock.jpg There is Cambridge, John Harrison, Corpus clock and $1.8 million. These make up the central characters of this plot. Now the story goes like Corpus clock is a clock (D-uh!) which is costing $1.8 million (d-uh again!) and will stand outside the library of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. It has taken a team of specialist engineers seven years, lead by Dr. Taylor to create and is homage to one John Harrison, pioneer of Longitude. Seen at the top of the 1.5 metre wheel is a Grasshopper which I suppose is one from a fantasy sci-fi series it would appear and this represents a method called Grasshopper escapement.

Surprisingly the clock has no hands or digital numbers but a series of slits cut into its 4ft wide stainless steel face - a complex arrangement of darting lights show the time. The inventor and creator Dr. Taylor is giving the clock, which will be visible to the public, to the college. Wanna see it? You know where to go.
